About

This coast is alive.

StrongCoast.Guide celebrates the culture, events and communities of BC's coast and north — the salmon barbecues, totem raisings, music festivals and fall fairs that make this region home.

Our sister site StrongCoast.org makes the case for protecting this coast — its wild salmon, its waters, its way of life. StrongCoast.Guide shows what's worth protecting.

We cover the coast from mid-Vancouver Island north: Parksville, Port Alberni and the Pacific Rim; the Gulf and Discovery Islands from Denman and Hornby to Quadra, Cortes, Texada and Lasqueti; the Comox Valley north through Campbell River, the North Island and the Central Coast; across to Haida Gwaii; and up the Skeena through Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Terrace, the Hazeltons, Kispiox and Smithers — with more communities joining the guide as we grow.

Alongside the events guide, our stories introduce you to the people, businesses and products of the region, in the spirit of the Humans of the Coast and Humans of the Skeena series.

Our standards

This guide is built for people who know this coast — so we hold ourselves to it:

  • Verified dates. Event dates come from organizers and official sources. When a date isn't confirmed, we say so on the listing.
  • Species accuracy. We don't publish imagery of wildlife species that aren't confirmed to live on the BC coast, or in the specific region a story covers — and we don't use AI-generated wildlife imagery.
  • Cultural respect. Events of specific First Nations are represented only with imagery those communities or their organizers provide or approve.

Spot an error? Tell us — we fix it.
